The "Write" Way to be Positive

It's hard to stay completely positive every second of every day. There is a lot that can go wrong and put a damper on your mood. One way I found to help myself stay positive is to write it out. I have a journal I write down things in to get them off my chest, but sometimes I need to turn that into something creative. Poems typically satisfy my need to do so. There is so much emotion you can put into a poem, and once the words are written out you feel more at ease. If I'm pacing back and forth because I'm nervous about something I'll sit down and write about it. In a convoluted yet technical way it takes your mind off of whatever it is bothering you. Sure, you're thinking a lot about it as you write it out, but once you have it all in front of you all the feelings subside and you can breathe again. True story. Just a few minutes ago I was writing a poem to relieve my feeling regarding an event that happened over the past few days that was really starting to get on my nerves. After I finished and read through my poem I felt so much better! Even now I'm not weighed down from the irritation of what I wrote about. (I would describe what happened, but this blog is about getting my words out into the world not all my problems). Bottom line, if you are stressed, sad, happy, angry, have something you really need to get off your chest, or all of  the above, just write about it!

Stay positive and don't forget to SMILE! (Like this tomato)

Welcome to My Blog!

I decided to start a blog because, well, I’m a writer. Ever since I was able to talk and hold a pencil I’ve been writing.  I typically wrote short stories or poems until I learned of new techniques and as time went on my writing reflected that.  That's why I was excited to take a Creative Writing class. This class,(which is my all-time favorite class!) is helping me explore different areas of writing. It started out with play writing. At first I was like,” How do you write a play?!” I had never written one before so I was skeptical about starting this unit.  My first play, to be honest, was terrible. It was about two guys who got stuck in an elevator and hated each other. It was extremely lame, but as the class progressed, so did my writing. Eventually I started to really enjoy writing plays and started to incorporate that into my own personal writing. I have a new technique to explore, which I am all about as a writer.
Poetry was another part of the class. The only catch? No rhyming. Once again, I thought to myself, “How do you write a poem that doesn’t rhyme?!” All this time I thought poems needed to rhyme in order to be completely awesome because that was all I had been exposed to when writing poetry. Of course I started out with something that I hated, but that’s what will happen with everything. Whenever you start something new it will be terrible at first, and unless you stick with it and keep working it will never get better. Now, I love writing poetry that doesn’t rhyme.  The next unit is prose unit, which I am completely comfortable with already. I’m waiting for the catch, but I’m willing to work with it.
So, why did I decide to start a blog? To explore a new writing opportunity. I want to be able to get my words out into the world and let them travel out of the comfort zone of my journals. If I ever publish something someday, they need have been exposed to the world so they won't be completely lost and scared. So on that note, the journey begins.
